OJO's first Engagement Party event at MOCA, the dynamic program that presents new artworks by innovative Los Angeles-based artist collectives. OJO will be the resident artist group from June–August 2009, presenting a unique public intervention on the first Thursday evening of each month

Art in Action: Combating Climate Change
LOOK Gallery, 6-9pm (Downtown)
Rainforest Action Network and Environmentally engaged artist Adam Wolpert discuss the ways in which art is making a difference in the environmental movement. Event includes organic food and drinks, silent auction, live entertainment and exhibit by Adam Wolpert. Tickets $50

The West Coast half of a Bicoastal book launch for Brendan Fowler's ISBN-10: 0-9820559-3-5. The next iteration takes place at Printed Matter in New York on June 13 from 5–7pm

X, Y, Z and U
Outpost for Contemporary Art, 6–8pm (Highland Park)
New York's apexart takes up shop at Outpost to present their new exhibition curated by The League of Imaginary Scientists. Participating artists and scientists include: Kim Abeles, Kelly Jaclynn Andres, Jason Bobe, Mackenzie Cowell and Liz Kueneke. On view until July 3

Dance Camera West–Screendance: A New Visual Language
REDCAT, 8pm (Downtown)
Opening night screening and reception party for the Eighth Annual dance media film festival, Dance Camera West. The night’s event features three unique screenings of 25 innovative dance films from around the world, highlighting the intersection between movement and cinema. The Chef's Theory

Where’s Poppa?
The Silent Movie Theater, 8pm (Fairfax)
Part of the Cinefamily Comedy Death Ray Series, this special presentation of Where’s Poppa? a crass, loud, jet-black comedy, is hosted by Sarah Silverman

Zackary Drucker: The Inability to Be Looked at and the Horror of Nothing to See

Opening reception for a new video installation based on a performance by Los Angeles artist Zackary Drucker. On view until July 2

Peter and the Wolf Jump Cool
Ford Amphitheatre, 8:30pm (North Hollywood)
Opening the Ford's summer season, City Ballet of Los Angeles and the Ford Amphitheatre present Peter and the Wolf Jump Cool. A 60s adaptation of Prokofiev's score, made famous by legendary jazz organist Jimmy Smith, features 12 dancers of City Ballet and live narration by actress Sloan Robinson. Intersection 2009

Opening reception for Intersection 2009; a multi-sited public installation project presented by The Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock and Outpost for Contemporary Art. The project presents artistic interventions into the heart of Eagle Rock's business community at the intersection of Eagle Rock and Colorado Boulevard in Northeast Los Angeles

X-TRA Summer 2009 Launch Party

Cinematheque de Tanger Archive Screening Series: (HI) STORY Tellers
LACMA, 7pm (Miracle Mile)
The first night at the Bing Theater in a series featuring a selection of films and videos from the Cinematheque de Tanger Archives. This program features shorts An American in Tangier, Vues du Grand Socco at du Petit Socco (View of the Main Square and the Small Square) and Ouarzazate Movie (The Door of the Desert) and is accompanied by a reading by author Gary Dauphin and an intermission reception, hosted by Bidoun Magazine.
