Something of an Oz, it is not always quite clear what goes on behind the scenes at Ace, but visitors can definitely count on exhibitions of astonishing ambition and scope at both the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills locations of Douglas Christmas’s massive “Institute.” Exhibitions by such diverse talents as Carl Andre, Lauren Bon and Erwin Redl give a sense of the force of Ace’s contribution. Other artists include Dennis Hopper, Matt Hope, Tim Hawkinson and Tara Donovan.
