This Week In Art
August 07, 2008 - August 13, 2008
In a city better known for celebrity star maps and the impenetrable Thomas Bros. Guides, ForYourArt is excited to be publishing MAP ForYourArt—a map that shows off the L.A. that we know and love.
We are proud to announce the 3rd map, our Architecture Issue, which is available today for download at ForYourArt.com. On the heels of the first John Lautner retrospective at the Hammer Museum and to celebrate Architecture and Arts and Humanities Month, we asked nine of L.A.’s culture and thought leaders to name three of their favorite architectural sites and/or public spaces. We hope that you will use our guide to take a driving tour of our city and be reminded that amongst the sprawl of Los Angeles, there are important and historical examples of works by architects such as Ray and Charles Eames, R.M. Schindler, John Lautner, Thom Mayne and Frank Lloyd Wright, among many, many others.
While we were putting together this issue, we were overwhelmed by how busy the architecture community is in L.A. Unfortunately, we couldn’t include everything in the printed edition. So check back often to read more about architecture tours, exhibitions and buildings of note.
In the meantime, save September 19 for Park(ing) Day L.A., which takes back the streets by transforming public parking spaces into personal city parks.
