Josh Melnick's The 8 Train
On view at Art in General, NYC
Still on view for another few weeks, Josh Melnick's first solo exhibition The 8 Train at Art in General in NYC has already garnered tons of positive attention. Though trained in sculpture at Yale, Melnick is better known for directing films and making music videos. His exhibition at Art In General draws on both of these experiences, within which Melnick uses cutting edge video technology to re-examine the function of portraiture. By focusing on individual NYC subway riders for a extended period, The 8 Train challenges the viewers sense of time, drifting between the stillness of photography and motion of film, and the possibilities of portraiture and its implications of human relationships. Read more about Josh Melinck and The 8 Train below and stop by Art in General to see the exhibition before it closes on July 18.
