Inbound: Houston

A billboard project by Karyn Olivier

Just installed this October on 13 billboards along Houston's main highways, Inbound: Houston is a public project by the artist in residence at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at the University of Houston, Karyn Olivier. The series replaces usual billboard advertisements featuring fast food and fashion models with photographs of what drivers would see if the billboards didn't exist including buildings, trees and a cloud-dotted skyline.

To accompany the work, local Houston non-profit art center DiverseWorks worked with two composers, Paul Wadle and Joel Love, from the University of Houston's Moore School of Music on an accompanying score available for download on the center's site and on local NPR statio KUHF 88.7FM. Inbound: Houston was made possible with support from Creative Capital.
